An estimated $725 million will be needed in 2012 to pay for "urgent" assistance to save lives and stave off conflict in the drought-stricken Sahel region of West Africa, according to aid officials from the United Nations and European Union. "We have a short time to act," said Jose Graziano da Silva, director of the Food and Agriculture Organization. "We have two or three months. No more than that."
